Updating NetDCU8 from WinCE to Linux

  • Hi,

Would it be possible to change the OS of a given NetDCU8 card from WinCE to Linux just in order to evaluate the other platform? If so, what would be the process? Is it documented?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Theoretically it is possible. You would have to start into NBoot, install the U-Boot bootloader, then start U-Boot and install kernel and root filesystem. However Linux on NetDCU8 was handled and supported by emlix and all the files, documentations and download instructions are only available on a CD that you get when you purchase a Linux Starterkit from emlix. So as a matter of fact it is not possible to do the switch without the files.

On the newer boards, we are doing the Linux support directly from F&S. There no such restrictions exist anymore. If you buy any Starterkit, you get the password to our download server that is valid for WinCE and Linux downloads at the same time. So you can evaluate the other OS, too.
