NetDCU + IBM J9/WEME

Hello,
Sorry, nobody at F&S has experience with WEME. I have taken a look at the IBM web side and downloaded the package. At the moment, we don't have the capacity to test the package.
So have you already tested the software ? I think your experience with this software will be of interest for other NetDCU users too.
Please feel free to contact us, if we can help in some way to get the software running.

In the meantime we have a second customer with IBM J9 java virtual machine / websphere. From this customer, i know, that it's possible to run this tool with NetDCU8 and WinCE 5.0. But the tool requires AYGSHELL support in the kernel. So if you want to give the tool a second chance, you can download our ND8Media kernel (AYGSHELL included).

We still have problems with J9. Putty-window just freezes when trying to use j9.exe. Sometimes I get error message "<JIT: fatal error, failed to allocate 1024 Kb data cache>" before freezing. "-Xnojit" -option just removes error message.

How can I see which kernel there is in our NetDCU8?

Which kernels supports AYGSHELL? All NK8MediaXXXX -kernels?

What is differences between those kernels?

How can I update kernel?

I succeeded updating kernel (NK8Media_060316.bin) using NetDCU USB Loader, but there is still same problem with J9.

I just get new problems:

1. All folders and files, that I've copied to NetDCU8, disappears after every boot (including folders and files on '\ffdisk' -folder). Why this happened?

2. After new kernel I couldn't use ndcucfg.exe -tool (e.x. 'help' -command do nothing):
- I updated boot loader too (to EBOOT8_117.nb0) -> no changes.
- I tried to "R - Total registry erase" -> no changes.
- I tried "O - Enable/Disable serial debug output" -> no changes.
- Finally I tried "C - Reset to factory default configuration" -> now NetDCU8 boots same way than when pushing "S"-button. Maybe this is "Factory default configuration", I don't know. When I got this card, it was allready configured.

Any advices?

Hello,

After pressing C you must also press L1 to automatically load the kernel after re-boot.
I will check the NK8MEDIA_ image for erros.

I loaded NK8Media_CF_060510 (after resizing OS-partition from 12 MB to 16 MB) , but I think, that I've done something wrong or I haven't done something necessary.

Now I can't connect to NetDCU8 with Active Sync. I just get message "USB Device Not Recognized".

Is this normal:
When serial debug output is disabled
- ndcucfg.exe is not working
- my PC-computers network adapter says "A network cable is unplugged"
When serial debug is enabled
- ndcucfg.exe is working
- my PC-computer recognizes, that network cable is plugged, but even "ping" -command is not working. I checked, that IP-address etc. are OK.

Do you have board rev 1.10 ?
Than, please update your StepStone Loader to the attached version.

This should solve your problems.

Yes, board rev is 1.10.
I updated StepStone loader (StepStone Loader, Version N818), but nothing has changed. Ethernet or Active Sync doesn't work.

That's really bad. I have tested the image again with the same configuration and i have no problems with Ethernet.
With ActiveSync it is important to set Dip switch 1+2 to off and Dip switch 3 to on.

Dip switches are off-off-on-off (1 to 4) and I haven't touch for them. Ethernet and Active Sync worked fine last week. Problems begin after updating.

That means if you install the pereviously used WinCE image, you have no problems ?
If so, i really don't understand whats wrong.
