Problems with recognition of some USB Sticks

  • Dear support team,

we use an efus A9 V3 R2 and have problems with the detection of some USB Sticks. Some devices work reliable and are always recognized (they appear as 'HardDisk' as expected). But certain sticks are not recognized every time. I have one stick here which sometimes work and suddendly is not recognized anymore if I unplug and replug it. But the behaviour is not deterministic - sometimes I can unplug und replug the stick several times before the error appears and on the next reboot the second or third removal of the stick triggers the error.
When the efus doesn't detect the problematic stick anymore all other sticks also don't work until a cold reboot. Additionally the folder "Hard Disk" sometimes remain on the file system even after a problematic stick is removed. If I replug the stick afterwards it is mounted under "Hard Disk2". If I try to access the old folder via FTP the log shows an error that the filesystem is not accessible (which makes sense). Apart from that I do not get any messages inside the log about USB devices attached or detached to narrow the problem down.

Do you have any idea what could cause these problems and how to narrow them down? Is there a possibility to show further infos inside the log?

  • Hello,

it is a know issue that particular USB Sticks does not work reliable under WCE/WEC! WCE/WEC has just one single driver which fulfill USB specification. Host PC has many drivers available, so OS may find one matches to your stick. We recommend to use only tested brands.

Assume your USB lines routed adequate for USB high speed: efus design guide. Else in some cases it may help to switch to full speed. Unfortunately this feature is not adjustable via Registry at the time and you need a new driver. Please come back then.

But I think we have the driver issue in your case, else more sticks would show problems.
