    I have a PicoCom3 where everything works as it should: ActiveSync, Remote Tools, sysisapi.dll, connect to device in VS 2008.

    Now I have replaced the PicoCom3 with a PicoComA5 on the same starter board, seems to work well. Screen works, Active Sync works, I can access the PicoCom with Explorer, sysisapi.dll access works.

    But, and a big but, remote tools refuse to connect and Visual Studio says

    Connect to to PicoCOM4 core ARMV4I device
    Connection failed. The bootstrap could not be loaded.

    Now, I have been told (by F&S) that the fact that PicoCom4 is mentioned and not A5 shouldn't be a problem and I can't select a PicoComA5 from inside VS 2008 anyway because there isn't one, only the old PicoCom3 and the PicoCom4.

    So, any ideas why a lot is working but not remote tools and not VS 2008?

    Figured this one out eventually and it had nothing to do with the Windows Image version. What happened was that I had two VROOT definitions, / and /MyApp, both pointing to myisapi.dll. This was a pure oversight (I started with / and decide to do /MyApp instead later) and caused all kind of strange problems since referring to '/anything' in my HTML would trigger the / VROOT instead.

    Can't find a trial version of Platform Builder, only of Windows CE 6 and I don't want to install that on my development machine. Can't you make the samples available somewhere on your server? After all we all have Windows CE licences and it would be immensly useful.

    sysisapi.dll, normally called sysadmin, was part of Windows CE until 5.0 but was removed in v6. Still, with the PicoCom board we get a sysadmin, which is great because very useful, and that leads me to think that you have ported it to v6 - correct?

    If that is the case, would you mind sharing the source code? I would really like to get my hands on the upload code since it's not trivial to write.

    Needless to say, I'd be very very grateful :-)

    I'm using the two image files from the PicoCom3 area. But I will install the Pro image on the npn-working device and then we will know for sure.

    One of the systems (my dev system) is Pro and the other is Core so, yes there's a difference. But they both have the IIS web server and I don't really see why the Pro components (Internet Explorer, Media Player, etc) should make a difference in IIS's serving of javascript and css.

    I have an ISAPI DLL that outputs code that links in a js file and a css file. This makes devlopement much easier since I can change much of the web application by altering the javascript and the css instead of the DLL C code. On one PicoCom (my own development version), this works without any problems.

    But on another PicoCom only the HTML from the ISAPI DLL is served and neither the javascript nor the css, in fact not even a header image (a gif file) is correctly being served by the web server. Needless to say, all the files do exist and are in the correct folders.

    I get nothing sensible from Chrome and/or Firefox that could help me. For instance, all Chrome says is 'Unexpected > at line 1' which doesn't make sense at all.

    Strangely enough, SysAdmin (and WebAdmin) both work fine on both systems but they don't rely on exterenal files.

    Any ideas shedding light on this baffling problem are VERY welcome.

    This works

    System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("\\Windows\\cmd.exe","ndcucfg -c 'reg save'");

    I think that rkHKLM.Flush(); saves to RAM but the above is needed to flash it and make the changes permanent. Would be nice if there was a neater way then running ndcucfg through cmd.exe.

    I'm trying this

    System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("ndcucfg.exe","-c 'reg save'");

    but it raises an exception, probably ndcucfg cannot be found. Running from the command prompt works fine.
    I think I need to specify the complete path to ndcucfg.exe but I cannot find the executable anywhere on my PicoCom3.

    Well, neither Flush nor Close works. Here's my code:

    RegistryKey rkHKLM = Registry.LocalMachine;
    RegistryKey rkIP = rkHKLM.OpenSubKey("Comm\\ETHNETA1\\Parms\\TcpIp", true);
    rkIP.SetValue("EnableDHCP", 0);
    rkIP.SetValue("IpAddress",sIP); // Typical value: 192.168.0.58
    rkIP.SetValue("Subnetmask",sSub);
    rkHKLM.Flush();
    rkHKLM.Close();
    MessageBox.Show("Saved IP=" + sIP + ", subnet=" + sSub);

    After this, I can see that the registry has been correctly changed but if I then issue 'reboot hardware' in DCUterm, after reboot the old settings are back.

    I have also seen that there is another key that defines EnableDHCP, "Comm\\TcpIp\\Parms". What is the function of that one? Can I ignore it or do both need to set both EnableDHCP values?

    ncducfg, is that a program that is always available (I have a PicoCom3)? And how do I use from C# - your example is a C++/Win32 example.

    Hello,

    I'm trying to update the TcpIp settings in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ETHNETA1\Parms\TcpIp. After writing, I can see that the changes have been written but after reboot the changes are gone again. I do this:

    OpenSubKey, SetValue, Flush(), Close()

    Flush, to my understanding, should make the changes permament but that doesn't seem to work.

    So, the question is: what do I have to do to to make the registry changes permanent?

    Yes I have used the 'contrast' commands and they do nothing. The problem is of course that you need some signal to control the display (on pin 18 if I remember correctly). Now, that signal should come from pin 65 on J1 but there's no signal there. If I put 3V DC on pin 18 then the display works but then I can't control it. So the question is not "How do I control the backlight?", the question is "Why is there no signal on pin 65 (PWM)?"

    Using display ET035080, settings as follows:

    reg open \drivers\display\LCD
    reg create key mode100
    reg set value name string "EDT ET035080"
    reg set value BLW dword 48
    reg set value HSW dword 20
    reg set value ELW dword 20
    reg set value BFW dword 8
    reg set value VSW dword 10
    reg set value EFW dword 4
    reg set value msignal dword 0
    reg set value rows dword 240
    reg set value LPP dword 240
    reg set value width dword 115
    reg set value height dword 86
    reg set value contrastenable dword 1
    reg set value contrastvalue dword 0xfff
    contrast set 0xfff
    reg set value type dword 0x106
    reg set value config dword 0x00300000
    reg set value columns dword 320
    reg set value PPL dword 320
    reg set value bpp dword 16
    reg set value lcdclk dword 10
    reg set value EnableCursor dword 0
    display mode set 100

    Does the grounding have to be removed in order to use the PWM? Or is just to provide some filtering?

    According to the specs, pin 65 on J1 is a PWM signal to control the backlight intensity. But if I use that pin the screen stays dark and if I connect my scope to pin 65, there's no signal at all there. Do I need to do something to enable the PWM signal on pin 65?

    ISAPI:is that Project, New, Smart device and then Class Library?

    ASP: that works but seems to be very limited, there isn't even a File System object

    What I want is to provide and interface for the user to upload and download files, set the date and time, set the IP address and some other config items. Seems that will have to be an ISAPI DLL.

    I get the same error message from VS as the person asking the initial question. Your answer may be helpful but unfortunately, I do not understand it:

    create an empty DLL Project and add the "ISAPI" - file(s) to your project!

    How do I do that using VS2008?

    OR download NetDCU9 SDK (<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.fs-net.de/download/bin/">http://www.fs-net.de/download/bin/</a><!-- m -->) and add the PicoCOMx platform!

    And how do I do that for the PicoCom3?

    A couple of questions concerning web app development (my target device is a PicoCom3):

    1) Does VS2008 support ISAPI modules? Can't find it anywhere ...

    2) Does Windows CE+IIS support ASP.NET applications?

    3) If 'No' to both the questions above, what is the best way to develop a web app for the PicoCom3 running Windows CE?

    Could you please post the executable as well, suitable for the PicoCom3.
    I'm not sure what is going wrong but I can't get VS2008 to build the solution properly.

    Kind regards,
    Dag

    When trying the build this project in VS2008 I get this linker error

    Error 3 error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol IID_IUnknown uafxcwd.lib RS232Test

    and for 9 other IID symbols. I have tried to figure out what is missing or wrong but without any luck.
    Can you help?

    Dag
